Chris Sprowls


Chris Sprowls is a Republican legislator, attorney, and Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives. He assumed the role of presiding officer in November 2020. At only 30 years old, Sprowls was first elected to represent Florida House District 65 on Nov. 4, 2014. He was re-elected in 2016 and 2018, and 2020. House District 65 is northwest of Tampa and includes Palm Harbor, Tarpon Springs, Dunedin and Clearwater. Sprowls spent seven years as an Assistant State Attorney for Florida’s Sixth Judicial Circuit, where he acted as a gang and homicide prosecutor. Sprowls provided a voice for victims and worked tirelessly to provide them the justice they deserve.

He has applied this legal experience to his work as a state representative by sponsoring legislation to improve criminal justice data transparency, end surprise medical billing, enhance DNA privacy, and significantly expand school choice in Florida. Sprowls is married to his wife Shannon, and they have two boys, Prescott and Conrad.
