Jim Mooney is a businessman and former teacher who was elected to Islamorada Village of Islands from 1998 – 2002, was Mayor in 2000, Village Council from 2014 to 2020, Vice Mayor in 2016, Mayor in 2017, and elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 2020.
As an Islamorada councilman Jim has shown his determination and passion in fighting for the environment by advocating for science-based solutions in order to restore the reefs and improve water quality. In addition to his record of defending the environment, Jim, as a lifelong resident of the Florida Keys, is dedicated to making it a better place.
He uses his experience as a father, coach, school-teacher, business owner, volunteer, Mayor, and Councilman to address the needs of his community.
Jim has also served on the boards of Take Stock in Children Monroe County, Fl Keys Electric Co-Op, Islamorada Chamber of Commerce, and the Conch Scramble Golf Tournament. He has also been an active leader on the FL Keys Board of Realtors, serving on the board of FL Keys MLS, as Chair of the Grievance Board, as Treasurer, and on the Upper Keys Foundation as President of the Women’s Council of Realtors.
