State Representative Juan Fernandez-Barquin represents House District 119, which includes the majority of west Kendall, a portion of west Miami-Dade County. He currently serves as Vice-Chair of the Civil Justice and Property Rights Subcommittee, Vice-Chair of Professions and Public Health Subcommittee, Judiciary Committee, Justice Appropriations Subcommittee, and Post-Secondary Education and Lifelong Learning Subcommittee.
Juan’s practice includes commercial litigation, real estate litigation, and real estate transactions. He was born and raised in Miami, Florida, and attended Belen Jesuit Preparatory School. After Belen Jesuit, he continued his studies at Florida International University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and graduated cum laude from the Honors College. After graduating from FIU, Juan attended and graduated from law school at the American University Washington College of Law in Washington, D.C. Juan is currently licensed to practice law in Florida, New York, and Washington, D.C.
After law school, Juan began his legal career as a court appointed attorney at the Palm Beach County Public Defender’s Office. In 2013, Juan then moved back to Miami to practice at a civil law firm, and then opened up his own practice.
Juan graduated from the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce Leadership Miami program in 2015, where his team sponsored and built a playground for Lotus House, a homeless shelter for women and children. Juan currently serves as the Chairperson for the Board of Directors for the Hearing and Speech Center of Florida, Miami-Dade County’s largest non-profit provider of hearing and speech language therapy services, and on the Board of The Children’s Trust. Juan has served as an adjunct professor at Miami-Dade College, and has taught Computer Assisted Legal Research and Business Law.
